http://www.amerifirst.com/yearly-home-maintenance-checklist DAN: Cleaning the gutters. Changing the furnace filter & cleaning the refrigerator coils. Raking leaves and taking care of your hose spigot. It takes a lot of work to maintain a home. How do you remember what needs to be done?
*# Thanks for tuning in today … I’m Dan Moyle with AmeriFirst Home Mortgage. We have a new tool to help you keep track of your home maintenance. Whether it’s your first home or you’ve lived there for some time, a home maintenance checklist just might help keep you organized.
That’s the new tool we’re talking about today. Joining me is the designer behind the AmeriFirst “Yearly Home Maintenance Checklist,” Crystal Smith. Thanks for joining me today Crystal.
*# DAN: Let’s talk about the reason behind this new tool. Why did you create a checklist for homeowners?
CRYSTAL: We all know the importance of regular maintenance to our homes, but sometimes life simply gets in the way of that. With a tangible monthly checklist, your “to do list” is right there in front of you to see the items you need to take care of this month. When you finish a project you can check it off the list and feel a sense of accomplishment as a home owner.
DAN: So, what is the benefit to having a monthly plan?
CRYSTAL: It’s easier to do the little tasks regularly, rather than everything at once at the last minute. Home maintenance changes as the seasons change. Things you may have needed to do in May aren’t going to be the same things you need to do in December. With a monthly checklist it’s easier to keep track of seasonal maintenance to your home while spreading out the tasks each month so you aren’t overwhelmed with projects.
DAN: Okay se we have a couple versions available … why the different looks?
CRYSTAL: One for Pinterest, and 2 to print. Though the infographic is nice, it might not be the easiest for some of us to print. Therefore I have created a PDF version of the same checklist to make it easier for printing. There is one in color and one in black and white so that people have their choice of style.
DAN: Love the look of it … what was your favorite part of creating it?
CRYSTAL: As I was creating the checklist and doing the research, I found myself thinking “I need to do this for MY house!” As a first time homebuyer myself there are many things I needed to learn about preventative home maintenance. I plan on printing this list off and making sure I keep track of these items monthly so that I feel more confident in my home.
*# DAN: Thanks Crystal. So you can get this checklist on the AmeriFirst website right here.
